Death of a Legend

Read The Sun online today and found out that Richard Whiteley, the long-running presenter of my favourite UK gameshow ever, Countdown, has just passed away today.

For those unfortunate not to have watched it, I have to say that it brought tremendous joy to my life especially during those long study leave when you wanted to take a break. The combination of sexy Carol Vordermann and Richard's corny jokes was a winner.

Richard, you will be sorely missed. May you rest in peace.

First Entry (Or how I stopped worrying and wrote this Blog)

"Its my first time...so pls be gentle..."

Was cleaning up the storeroom last week when I stumbled accross my 'holiday diary", written circa 1981-1984. Beebee complimented on how cute it was, how innocent it all looked and sounded. I thought it was just plain corny. Well anyway, it was interesting how back then little things could arose so much curiosity and how everything could be so detailed. An extract from our holiday in Fraser's Hill:

8:45: Bangun pagi.
8:50: Adik bangun.
8.52: Gosok gigi and main air dengan adik.
8.59: Makan roti. Banyak kabus.

or the trip to Kuantan (very wanky handwriting due to bumpy car movement):

9:15: Sampai terowong. Adik suka tengok banyak lampu.
10:45: Sampai Temerloh. Mak tidur. Lalu atas Sungai Pahang yang kotor.

At one point, I fell asleep and Mum had to fill in the details.
Beebee was rolling in laughter on the floor after reading 2 pages.

The thing is, reading something written 20 years ago gave me so much insight about myself, my family and my life.

I could recollect such wonderful memories with my brother, my mum and my grandparents and have a better understanding about them. All this...from something I scribbled as a holiday assignment from mum 20 years ago.
